Calvin Lutz II was searching for an alternative remedy to deal with the effects of his rheumatoid arthritis. “I had been taking Methotrexate® along with a corticosteroid for a couple of years and was not really pleased with the results or side effects,” said Lutz. “I was also concerned about the long-term health effects.” A friend recommended that Calvin try CBD oil. “I had read about the positive results people were having with CBD with regards to their rheumatoid arthritis, but like anybody, I was a little skeptical,” added Lutz. He began taking CBD on a daily basis and after about 90 days could see a noticeable difference. “It took a little while, but once I was on the daily dose of CBD oil I really began to notice that my joints felt better and I wasn’t as sore and stiff,” said Lutz. Under the care of his doctor, Calvin has since stopped taking the corticosteroid and is weaning himself off of the Methotrexate®. “I like that the CBD oil is completely natural,” added Lutz. “Given the option, I always prefer a natural remedy over a pharmaceutical one.”
The passage of the 2018 Farm Bill allowed for hemp to be legally grown in the United States. As a fourth-generation farmer, Lutz began researching the prospect of growing hemp and processing it into high-quality CBD extract. “Over the years we have grown asparagus, strawberries, cherries, apples, pumpkins, and Christmas trees,” said Lutz, “so I was naturally interested in the prospect of growing industrial hemp.” 2 Cals, LLC, is State of Michigan licensed hemp production facility. Lutz was driven by the desire to grow and produce the highest-quality CBD extracts as possible. “I am always concerned about quality, and oftentimes you just don’t know the strength and quality of the products you are getting,” added Lutz. “If the quality is good, CBD and even THC in measured amounts can provide people with relief.”
In the meantime, Calvin’s son Calvin Lutz III (“Bubs”) focused his attention on acquiring as much knowledge and information as he could about the processing and production of high-quality CBD oil. “It’s been quite an education,” said Calvin III. “Between the conferences and seminars I’ve attended and the network of associates in the field, I have been able to develop the skills to produce an excellent CBD product.” Calvin III’s role in the operation is to manage the production and CBD processing operation. “We are testing an array of products that we are planning to market soon.” The products will be marketed under the “Cal’s CBD” brand. All products are third-party, lab-tested in compliance with State of Michigan guidelines. (Click here for lab results)

As Calvin’s involvement in CBD blossomed, his wife, Julie, began experimenting with formulating topical creams that included CBD. “The creams have become very popular with people who suffer from joint stiffness and soreness,” said Julie Lutz. “Calvin and I have both been using the topical cream for the last year and we can notice a lot of improvement with the way we feel,” said Julie. “The most important thing is that you consult your doctor, especially if you are taking prescription medications,” added Julie. “While the outcome of taking CBD cannot be scientifically or medically proven, its benefits are hard to overlook.”
